MEET OUR SHRIMP

Friday Night Fried Shrimp 🍤❤️

This is a staple in our house—fried shrimp and crinkle fries on a Friday night. It’s simple, satisfying, and reminds us of how we grew up eating seafood. We make this with our own farm-raised shrimp and it comes together fast.

Here’s how we do it:
- Soak the shrimp in buttermilk for 15–30 minutes.
- Mix flour, cornmeal, Cajun seasoning, salt, and pepper in a bowl.
- Heat oil in a pan or fryer to about 350°F.
- Dredge shrimp in the dry mix, shake off excess, and fry until golden—just a few minutes per batch.
- Serve with fries, lemon wedges, and dipping sauce (we like tartar or cocktail).

-2 lb peeled & deveined shrimp (we use our farm-raised Gulf American Shrimp)
-1/2 bottle of Italian dressing (any kind works!)
-1 pack of bacon (cut slices in half)
-Your favorite BBQ sauce (we love KC Masterpiece)

Instructions:
-Marinate the shrimp in Italian dressing for about 30 minutes (longer is fine too!).
-Wrap each shrimp with a strip of bacon and secure with a toothpick or slide onto skewers.
-Grill over medium heat, just a few minutes per side—until the shrimp are pink and the bacon is starting to crisp.
-Brush on BBQ sauce during the last minute or so on the grill. Let it caramelize a bit!
Serve hot and enjoy—there won’t be any leftovers. 😉

Having a look at the baby shrimp, the health of the animals is good and the acclimation is going smooth thus far. We will get to stock two more ponds with these shrimp this afternoon.

Our 4th acclimation this year! We have had a hard time getting enough shrimp to get our whole farm stocked, but we thank God for keeping us safe during our travels and providing like he always does!

Mr. Sunny dog was very busy today he helped get all the buoys serviced and set out at each pond. They later will be put down in the water to monitor oxygen and temperature. This information is used to adjust our aerators and create a stable environment for the shrimp. 🦐 🐶

Day 3 filling up these ponds!!!

It is always a nerve-racking moment turning on the salt water well, we fear what if it does not pump? For us these photographs are just another reminder of how the good Lord provides. 🌊 🙏🏼

We have also removed all of our feed distributors for servicing. Some of the things we have to service are new bearings, new radios, new computer boards… just to list a few. Also big news they are all getting a new type radio which is meant to pair with the microphone acoustic system which we will be running next season. The system will actually be able to hear the shrimp eating and feed accordingly for maximum growth!!

We have also removed all of our feed distributors for servicing. Some of the things we have to service are new bearings, new radios, new computer boards… just to list a few. Doing some work to our feeders, straightening up the lids; tightening the slack on the black hoses, and installing a pvc pipe on each feeder to protect the power wire, mainly from getting bumped by the canoe when we have to service them.

Got the aerator axle all back together and ready for install. Had to go to Dothan Alabama and pick up the parts. The place was a pretty neat military surplus supply. (see last photo) also we added a grease fitting to the axle hubs to make servicing easy and possible.

Up close and personal with our MiniMax S1200 feed delivery system. This baby is it, custom made one of the most important pieces on the farm. Built by hand to order from some Canadian Engineers, this unit came with a hefty price tag and we are fortunate enough to have one. Glory to god and thankful for all we are given!

Our shrimp are finally big enough we were able to remove and pressure wash all of our window screens. We add these at the beginning of the season so the babies can’t escape but now we are good!

Been working on our diesel aerators servicing them and making some repairs. This one got a new water pump. Radiator repair, full service with new filters and fluids. Also we added a oil pressure gauge.

We have come to the realization that our field of spare aerators is now covered in black berry vines. It won’t be long and then we will have a ton of berries! Can’t wait to make some homemade black berry cobbler with vanilla ice-cream.

It’s the little things that matter in life. We made a huge improvement by adding this little bracket to hold the power wire on the feeders. It helps keep the wire out of the feed path and it swivels out of the way for when we need to unplug the feeders and coil the wire when we clean our ponds in the off season.

Our battery kept going dead on our feed delivery system. It turns out our alternator wasn’t hooked up, so we got it fixed today and even installed a voltage meter.

This was causing a lot of wear to the post and would have eventually caused the feeders to collapse if not fixed. We have installed yet another upgrade by screwing rubber dampeners to the post to deflect the feed. Always something out here on the farm but we do our best to tackle all the obstacles. #haveablessedday

We were having an issue with tree frogs and dirt daubers clogging our feeders. We have now added plastic hardware cloth and a hose clamp to help protect the vent opening on the tops of our feeders. Hoping to keep the bugs out and the feed flowing! #godbless

We were having a hard time keeping up with all of our feeders so now they are number labeled and we added a rope to hold the hose in place which makes it a one not two person job now!
